Advent Greeting on the Feast of Blessed Charles

Dear Sisters and Brothers of the Lay Fraternities in North America:

We wish to send you fraternal and cordial greetings on this Feast of Blessed Charles, 97 years to the day he gave his final witness to Jesus at Tamanrasset which this year also falls on the first Sunday of Advent. Brother Charles’ whole life in the desert was one of waiting and listening to the Lord who came to him in silence, solitude, as well as in all the Others he encountered from his own but also of different cultures, languages, religious faith and life experiences. We have just returned from our annual meeting of community representatives at Tarrytown and appreciate the efforts of all present to share some of the joys and hopes as well as challenges and weaknesses which are part of the life being lived in the fraternities of Canada and the U.S. We sensed a great desire for a shared life of prayer and fraternity, of knowing Jesus and living the Gospel in the spirit of Brother Charles. Let us accompany each other this Advent as we journey each day with the Holy Family from Nazareth to Bethlehem where we hope to encounter the Child Who is the Eternal Word the Father never tires of speaking to each of us. We accompany all who are suffering in the world from natural disasters or unjust social structures, which result in widespread poverty and war throughout the world. We pray with and for all our fraternities of North America, the Continent and throughout the world, in particular for our brothers and sisters living in the Arab world.

United in prayer,

Ciro and Frank
